Background:
Massive earthquake on April 25, 2015 resulted with damaging physical infrastructure and loss of life. As government source 8891 people were dead and 14 districts was severely affected. More than 8000 school were affected. Education was adversely affected and disrupted. In this regards, SamunnatNepal implemented Nepal Earth Quake Response (NEQR) program. Under NEQR program Samunnat Nepal organized 3 days teachers training on Education in Emergency (EiE) with support of World Vision International Nepal. EiE teachers training was conducted in 4 earth quake affected districts - Gorkha, Sindhupalchowk, Bhaktapur and SIndhuli. Also 1 day orientation on EiE for School Management Committee (SMC), Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and Head Teacher (HT). Program was implemented with the coordination of Department of Education (DoE), concerned District Education Office (DEO) and World Vision International. Supportive materials was distributed to all schools of program coverage area.
Duration:
- June 15 – August 31, 2015
Objectives:
- Access of children to safe temporary learning centers that include learning and recreational activities, psycho-social support with positive care interaction
Achievements:
- 319 teachers & 10 Resource Person (RP) were capacitated on activity based learning for psychosocial support & learning readiness
- 171 SMC, PTA & stakeholders were capacitated on EiE& its aspect along with their meaning full role on conducting educational activities
- 319 teachers committed on activity based teaching learning
- 40% of female & 60 % male teachers were covered by program
- 29% of female & 71% of male were covered by program in SMC, PTA &stakeholder orientation
- In totality 64 % of male & 36% of female were covered by program
